Lavrov claims Ukraine not interested in peace
Lavrov referenced Zelensky aide Mikhail Podoliak’s comments that Kiev might temporarily accept some regions as “de facto” Russian, but would later attempt to reclaim them while pushing for Western sanctions against Russia.
He argued that Ukraine’s insistence on security guarantees before negotiating reflects a desire to maintain what he described as a “neo-Nazi, Russophobic regime” in Kiev. Lavrov also criticized European sponsors for prioritizing Ukraine’s security at Russia’s expense, accusing them of ignoring Moscow’s interests and supporting policies that marginalize Russian-speaking communities and the Orthodox Church.
Despite these criticisms, Lavrov expressed hope that recklessness on Kiev’s part would fail and that the peace process outlined by Presidents Putin and Trump would continue.
